So there are many things that prove how the Tuck community is so amazing, but one great example is Tuck Gives. For those of you unfamiliar to what Tuck Gives is, it is a student run organization that raises money for Tuckies looking to intern in the nonprofit sector. Basically, the community comes together so our classmates can do great things in the world and not have to live at home or eat only Ramen noodles. Tuck Gives raises money throughout the year through various activities. Some of the highlights this year were a Poker Tournament, a Pong Tournament, March Madness, mechanical bull rides, and the list goes on.
The culmination of the fundraising is Tuck Gives Week, which includes a silent auction followed by a live auction party. Students, faculty, staff, and the community donate a variety of things for people to bid on. Some examples of the 60+ items in the silent auction include a round of golf with Dean Slaughter, ski lessons with a member of the ski club, an Indian dinner for 10 cooked by a classmate, and a guided hike and cook out with Professor Robinson. The big night is the Live Auction party, which this year was Roaring Twenties themed. As one of the auctioneers I got to take an active role in introducing the night via our own Tuck Video version of Call Me Maybe (Check it out!! http://vimeo.com/40199964 .) Some of the items in the live auction this year were a crawfish boil for 20 with Dean Danos, a South African dinner and wine tasting with Professor Stocken, a Mexican Fiesta for 15 people, and 4 tickets to a suite at a Red Sox game. All in all, the silent and live auction raised over $68,000, yes over $68,000. It was an amazing week and all for an amazing cause!
