Highlights of My Tuck MBA Experience
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE TUCK MBA AT DARTMOUTH?
As a Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) Fellow, I developed a thorough set of criteria during my application process—class size, academic rigor, student-to-faculty ratio, global requirements, career outcomes—and Tuck checked every box. What moved it from a great option to the right one was a campus visit for Discover Tuck, where I had an immediate, intuitive sense of belonging. I remember texting my mom “Ramirra Marshall T'26” before I'd even submitted my application—that's how certain I felt. Throughout the application process, Tuck students stood out as the most engaged and generous with their time, offering honest insight and feedback that only deepened my conviction. I came to Tuck on a gut feeling, and I've been grateful for that decision ever since.
HOW ARE YOU PLANNING TO USE YOUR MBA AFTER GRADUATION?
My MBA represents a formal pivot into health care. Before Tuck, I worked as a consultant without alignment to a specific industry, but I kept gravitating toward health care clients for two reasons: the people are warm and mission-driven, and the work directly impacts patient outcomes. At Tuck, I leaned into that pull through health care-focused coursework and a biotech internship at Biogen, which sharpened both my conviction and my functional skills within the industry. Those experiences have given me a clearer sense of where I want to go, and the confidence that I can get there.
WHAT ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR TUCK MBA EXPERIENCE SO FAR?
The most meaningful thread running through my Tuck experience has been global exposure, both academically and personally. Through the Kenya Global Insight Expedition with Professor Ramon Torras, I visited the African continent for the first time—something I hold deeply as a Black American—while applying core business concepts by developing a sustainability strategy for Root Capital, a nonprofit supporting agricultural businesses. I also completed a term exchange in Sydney, Australia through TuckGO, where a negotiations course incorporating Asian norms and customs expanded my perspective in ways I couldn't have accessed domestically. Beyond the classroom, I traveled to Athens, Greece to compete in the Global MBA Regatta—a memorable chance to connect with fellow Tuckies, MBA students, and alumni from around the world.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE AT TUCK?
In three words: rigorous, flexible, and agile. Tuck has fundamentally changed how I approach problems. I'm now equally comfortable thinking at the strategic level, or drilling into the details, adapting based on what the context demands. The degree is general by design, but students have genuine flexibility to build a specialty; I've curated my coursework at the intersection of health care, consumer insights, and data analytics. What speaks to the agility of the faculty is how thoughtfully they've integrated AI into coursework, from correcting model outputs on exams to open discussions about prompt generation. The evolution from my first to second year alone has been profound.
WHAT WILL YOU MISS MOST ABOUT YOUR TIME AT TUCK?
More than anything, I'll miss the community. Living in Buchanan my first year meant that connection was always just steps away, whether it was a spontaneous get-together or leaning on each other through a tough stretch. There's something special about Hanover's isolation that further deepens those bonds; when you're in the bubble, you lean in, be it walks around Occom Pond, small group dinners, or Tripod nights at Campion Rink. The levity this community holds, even during difficult times, is something I know I'll carry with me.
IN ONE SENTENCE, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE TUCK MBA EXPERIENCE TO SOMEONE CONSIDERING BUSINESS SCHOOL?
Tuck goes beyond career preparation to unlock the courageous leader you never knew existed.
