For Clients

  • What is Tuck Community Consulting (TCC)?

TCC offers consulting projects to its clients.

TCC consulting projects are intended to assist local non-profits and entrepreneurs with typical business issues. Past client issues have included (but certainly have not been limited to):

    • How can I expand my business without opening a new location?
    • How can I improve customer retention?
    • Is there a market for my new product/invention?
    • I seem to get plenty of customers, but why am I still not profitable?
    • How can we enhance our strategic impact?
    • What are potential funding sources for my nonprofit?

Projects are intended to last approximately 10 weeks, with total student hours capped at 60-80 (meaning each student on the team contributes about 5-10 hours). We understand that many of our clients face multiple challenges, but we cannot address them all. We suggest you focus on your most pressing business issue – think about your needs in terms of what one consultant could address working full-time for one week.

  • Why do we do it?

TCC provides students with real-world experience in consulting, the opportunity to apply their business skills, and a chance to volunteer in the community.  Students do not receive compensation or academic credit.

  • How much does it cost?

TCC services are 100% pro-bono, but we do require ongoing cooperation from your organization, especially access to key individuals and information.

  • How does it work?

If you’re interested in applying for a project please reach out to one of the co-chairs on the Contact Us page. Please remember that while Tuck MBA students can provide substantial value to your organization, a well-defined business or strategic question will make a significant difference in ensuring their focus is on the issues of greatest importance. Therefore, please be as specific as possible in your reach-out as to the problem your organization would like TCC support with and your ideal deliverables.

If your project is a good fit, the TCC co-chairs will contact you to gather further information with the intention of including your project in the next round of project staffings.

  • What is the timeline?

The following schedule is tentative and subject to change. Please submit your project proposals as early as possible. Also, note that pitch night is the best chance to get students excited about your project so please keep in touch with the co-chairs regarding the date of that event.

Project Submission – Through late August
    Project Staffing – Mid-September
    Project Launch – Late-September
    Project Conclusion – Mid-December

For Students

  • What is TCC?

TCC is a student-run club that organizes teams of students to conduct volunteer consulting projects aimed at helping local nonprofits and small businesses enhance their effectiveness and fulfill their missions.

  • What are the typical client questions?
    • How can I expand my business without opening a new location?
    • How can I improve customer retention?
    • Is there a market for my new product/invention?
    • Should I outsource some of my operations?
    • I seem to get plenty of customers, but why am I still not profitable?

  • How does a TCC project work?

TCC projects are designed to be 60–80 hours in scope, this means a 15-20 hour contribution per team member.  Once you are placed on an engagement, you will attend a kick-off meeting with your project team and a TCC co-chair to determine team leader, project timeline, scope, and deliverables.  After conducting your analysis and meeting with the client and other parties as necessary, you will present your findings/deliverables to the client.
