Community

There are a number of activities and organizations both at Tuck and in the Upper Valley that you can get involved in during your two years here as a Tuck Partner.

We’ve identified some current and past partner favorites here, and encourage you to reach out to the partner network to find out about other ways to be involved and engaged in our special community.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Upper Valley offers many opportunities for helping in the community—working with children, the elderly, disabled individuals, new parents, environmental projects, animals, and students.

Clubs at Tuck

Partners organize clubs geared toward their own interests, including books, community service, a playgroup for children or dogs, and so on.

Partners are also able to join a number of student clubs such as Tripod Hockey and Glen Tuck. Current partner clubs include:

  • Helping Hands
  • Book Club
  • International Club
  • Tiny Tuckie Club
  • Tuck Dogs Club
  • Gourmet Club
  • Outdoor Club
  • Wine Club
  • Work From Home Club
  • Craft Club
  • Dance Club
  • Professional Enrichment Club
  • Movie Club
  • Beer Club

Don’t see a club you’re interested in? Don’t worry, you can always start one while you’re here!

Classes at Dartmouth and in the Community

Another way to spend time in the Upper Valley is to take classes. You can choose from academic subjects, hobbies, and more. Partners may audit classes from both the undergraduate offerings and the Tuck elective curriculum only if there are enough seats in the class and with the permission of the instructor. If you are interested in auditing an undergraduate class at Dartmouth, use this timetable of class meetings available to search for courses of interest. Click “Subject Area(s)” and input your search criteria. The resulting table will list courses, instructors, class meeting periods, etc. Use the Dartmouth directory to search for the instructor’s email address, and use the weekly schedule diagram to determine when the class meets. It is also possible to audit a course at Tuck.

Classes in English as a Second Language (ESL) are available to international students for a fee at the Rassias Center at Dartmouth. You can also contact the University of New Hampshire College of Professional Studies.

Classes for children and adults in pottery, weaving, jewelry, bookbinding, drawing, and painting (among other things) are offered by AVA Gallery in Lebanon, NH, and Artistree in South Pomfret, VT. Compton ART in Woodstock, VT, offers a variety of classes as well.

Cooking and nutrition classes are offered by the Hanover/Lebanon Co-op Food Stores and by King Arthur Flour in Norwich, VT. The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center offers a wide range of health lectures, including events through the Women’s Health Resource Center (such as new mom support groups).

Tuck Voices

“Hanover has become my second home. As a father of three kids, I am beyond grateful for the inviting community. Quoting my wife who has never spent time in a distant location so far from home; “Tuck has been extremely welcoming to the partners and families. Hanover is the first and only location where I felt like I could be my genuine self, outside of my hometown.”
