Housing Contract Terms and Conditions

Housing Contract - Tuck Residence Halls

By accepting a room in one of Tuck's residents halls, you acknowledge your acceptance of the term of this agreement and commit to adhering to and promoting the following community principles:

  • The maintenance of a quiet and orderly place within which to live and study.
  • The maintenance of an atmosphere of mutual respect for personal dignity and consideration for others.
  • A mature respect for the facilities of the Tuck School and Dartmouth College.
  • The maintenance of a suitable atmosphere for the entertainment of guests, whether family or friends.
  • A mature respect for citizens of the local community.

Room Care

Residents are responsible for maintaining a reasonable standard of cleanliness and safety in their rooms. Failure to do so may result in a requirement to address the condition or vacate the room. The College reserves the right to enter and inspect any student room at any time without prior consent for emergency services, general maintenance, safety inspections, or to investigate potential violations of college regulations. This right extends to custodial and maintenance personnel who may observe conditions requiring attention.

Room Condition Form

Residents are encouraged to carefully complete the Room Condition Form (RCF) upon moving into the room. The form enables you to assess and record the conditions and contents of your room, thus safeguarding you from being held responsible for pre-existing damage or missing furniture when you move out. Upon arrival you will find a welcome note from Facilities with a QR code to access the form.

Please submit your room condition form within 14 days of your move-in. If you do not complete the room condition form, we will consider your space in acceptable condition, and you may be held responsible for the cost to repair any or all damages.

Upon checkout, residents are required to leave their rooms in the same condition as when they checked in, other than normal wear and tear. Failure to remove trash/debris or personal items will result in a charge of $100- $250 based on serverity, which will be assessed to your student account.

Damages

Residents are liable for any damage caused by their negligence or the negligence of their guests, beyond normal wear and tear. If individual responsibility for damage to common areas cannot be determined, repair costs will be prorated among the residents of the building, floor, or cluster. Charges will be based on actual repair costs and assessed to your student account. Notify the MBAPO immediately if you cause or witness any damage. As a point of context, below are some typical estimated charges:

  • Damage requiring patching and/or painting to one or two walls $250
  • Damage requiring painting of an entire room $750
  • Damage requiring replacement of carpet $2,000
  • Damage requiring replacement of mattress $1,000
  • Damage requiring plumbing, electrical, or mechanical service $125/hour
  • Damage requiring replacement of window treatment $500

The Tuck School does not assume responsibility for personal property loss due to vandalism, theft, fire, or other incidents. Personal property and liability insurance can be obtained through existing homeowners insurance or purchased from providers.

Kitchen use policy

Some residence halls have shared kitchens, refrigerators, and spaces for food storage. Students must bring their own personal pots, pans and other cooking utensils. We expect students using these facilities will establish and manage their own specific policies for appropriate use of these spaces pursuant to the principles of community.

Basic courtesy rules to follow so we can keep the kitchen space running smoothly.

  • Wash your own dishes after each use.
  • Throw your trash away.
  • Label/manage your food.
  • Don’t eat someone else’s food without asking.
  • Be gracious.

Tuck School Housing Termination Policy

Your room shall be used exclusively as your private residence, and you are expected to comply with all the terms and conditions listed above. This housing agreement is automatically void if you are no longer enrolled as a Tuck student, in which case you will have three days to vacate your room. Occupants of the Residence Halls shall be subject to the rules and regulations that may be adopted by Tuck or Dartmouth College.
