Housing Contract - Tuck Residence Halls
As a student in a Residence Hall on the Tuck Campus you are expected to promote:
- The maintenance of a quiet and orderly place within which to live and study.
- The maintenance of an atmosphere of mutual respect for personal dignity and consideration for others.
- A mature respect for the facilities of the Tuck School and Dartmouth College.
- The maintenance of a suitable atmosphere for the entertainment of guests, whether family or friends.
- A mature respect for citizens of the local community.
Room Care
If you fail to maintain a reasonable standard of cleanliness and safety, you will be required to correct the condition or be asked to vacate the room. The College reserves the right to enter and to inspect any student room at any time without permission or consent of the room occupant(s) to provide emergency service or general maintenance work, make safety or condition inspections, or investigate probable violation(s) of College regulations.
Damages
You are liable for any damage and/or loss to your room or furnishings beyond what is considered normal wear and tear. When individual responsibility for damage to common areas cannot be ascertained, the costs of repairs will be prorated among the residents of the building, floor, or cluster. The charges for typical dorm damages are as follows:
- Damage requiring patching and/or painting to one or two walls $500
- Damage requiring painting of an entire room $1,000
- Damage requiring replacement of carpet $2,300
- Damage requiring replacement of mattress $1,000
- Damage requiring plumbing, electrical, or mechanical service $100/hour
- Damage requiring replacement of window treatment $750
- Loss of any item of dorm furniture provided by Tuck $700/item
- Loss of refrigerators or lamps $300 each
The cost for repair or replacement of public facilities and furnishings will be actual costs based on price quotes obtained per incident.
Prohibited in Residence Halls
- Appliances for cooking (such as hot plates, electric grills, toasters, pressure cookers, air fryers, or other electrical appliances with a heating element (i.e., space heaters), or an open flame, including candles and incense)
- Smoking, including vape pens, tobacco products, possession or use of illegal drugs. Dartmouth College is Tobacco Free.
- Air conditioners
- Waterbeds
- Pets
- Weapons (or any item that may be construed as a weapon)
- Permanent alterations to décor, removing or adding furniture
- Halogen lamps or lamps with plastic shades
- Tape, contact paper, or other adhesive on walls
- Soliciting, peddling, or advertising for any commercial purpose on bulletin boards, walls, or doors
- Tampering with or destroying fire safety and fire prevention equipment
- Subletting your room (only the Tuck School can fill a room or a partial room vacancy)
- Fireworks
- Ozone machines
Room Access & Keys
Students should lock their doors at all times. You will be issued a single key to your room. If you lose this key during the academic year, you will be given a replacement key until your room is rekeyed. If your lost key is not returned within 48 hours, a work order will be submitted to rekey your room. You will be notified that the rekeying has taken place by a placard left on your door by the locksmith. A charge of $100 to rekey your room and $20 fee for any mailbox or locker key replacements will be charged to your student account.
Tuck School Housing Termination Policy
Your room shall be used exclusively as your private residence. You should comply with all of the terms and conditions listed above. This housing arrangement is automatically void if you are no longer enrolled as a Tuck student, in which case you will have three days to vacate your room. Occupants of residence hall rooms shall be subject to such other rules and regulations as may be adopted by the Tuck School or Dartmouth College in the future.
